The 5th part of Merchants of cool talks about the excessive use of sex and violence in TV and advertisements to attract teenagers. It begins by talking about a series from the Warner Channel that tried something new; it did not have sex and violence related content. However, after sometime competing with series like ‘Beverly Hills 90210′ which constantly talked about sex, the series was replaced. The new series, Dawson`s Creek, was about sex obsessed teenagers in a small town. After that, many other TV channels followed the idea, and the sex theme started to be more and more used in television.
The video ends by saying the fact that producers argue that the media is just a mirror of teenagers, however, in reality the teenagers see the mooks and midriffs in television and try to copy them.
